Cairn was founded three years ago with the goal of changing the way consumers and brands interact in the outdoors industry. With a strong passion for the outdoors and interest in retail strategy, Rob Little and Jared Peterson were surprised at some of the gaps that the outdoor industry had in the areas of outreach and data collection in comparison to other industries. Looking at the changing world of retail, they founded Cairn as an opportunity to bring positive disruption and give back in their area of passion.
To that end, the Cairn team approached Swell with a need to incentivize not just the traditional rewards activities, but also the completion of customer feedback surveys and demographic profiles — Cairn relies on both tools to make better-informed, mission-critical decisions. Moreover, while Cairn wanted to provide points for referrals as well, tracking those referrals on an automated basis meant a difficult integration with their recurring billing provider.
After performing custom integrations with Cairn's recurring billing provider and setting up three key custom actions on their behalf, the Cairn program launched with great success. Not only has the referral program generated more than 2 times the volume it had prior to Swell, but Cairn's custom actions have been completed tens of thousands of times as well — in turn providing valuable insights which help drive the business forward.
Moreover, the Swell and Cairn teams have also worked together to ensure that Cairn has sufficient insights into their rewards program. Not only are they able to track the performance of their referral program all the way back to how many individuals are sharing referral links, but the two teams have also worked closely together on advanced program reporting tools as well, which has been to the benefit of all of Swell's merchants!
